Applied Art Studios

Well, I am back from Florence, although I have many photos of Florence I want to add to this blog I thought I would start adding pictures I am taking now, here, back in Toronto. I found a new home and moved just recently. I also found a great job. It's working for a company called Applied Art Studios and we paint murals as well as do faus finishes in pretty fantastic homes. I'll be learning quite a lot and taking manypictures of what we do, sort of a portfolio for future. Here are my first pieces. I haven't seen the site yet but these small paintings will be attached to cabinets, panals. The one with the rose is a finished piece, already antiqued. They will be beautiful when in place.

More London

Here are a few more pictures, all the ones I've had a chance to look at so far. I'll post a few more later this week.

More In London

In London I stayed with a friend that I've known for almost five years now, Ian. This is the first time we've actually met. It was really nice to meet him and he is exactly as I know him to be. We watched movies, he burned a few for me and hung out. I also went with him and his father, Collin to watch them work. They do recordings of different classical shows. The one ithe night there pictures were taken was quite good. The other picture of Ian was taken at his sisters house. We went there my last night for dinner. They were all very nice and made my visit wonderful.

Painting...

Another version of this painting. I still have a ways to go. Midterm critiques are tomorrow. I hope that it goes well...

London

I'm not sure if all of these pictures will show up properly since they are taken at night, I hope so. Some of them were taken on the London Eyes which is basically a huge wheel with cages on it that gives you a chance to see London at a spectacular view. The others are from a walk I took from the Tate Modern back along the Thames to where Ian and Collin were recording a concert. (Ian being the person I stayed with over the time I was in London).

New Encaustic-Just Started

Here is my latest painting. I've decided that for my thesis work that I will concentrate on using encaustic. I've also moved into large format to be able to do this. This one is of three figures, only two are really visible at this point. I have a bit of work on them yet but so far it is going REALLY well considering I don't know exactly what I am doing. The models are Jordan, Esther and Esther and I am thinking of calling this painting 'The Three Fates'. Right now I am researching a bit more on that end of it. As well I am reading up on Orientalism. So much to do in getting ready for my thesis paper. I'll keep posting this one as I work on it. I want it finished for midterm. Tomorrow I leave for London so I won't be posting updates for at least 10 days.

Erin

Here is the Erin drawing finished. I haven't sprayed it yet but other than that I'm pretty happy with it.

A taste of Rome

I took almost 400 pictures in 3 days in Rome. I have many to go through to pick out the best. So today I am just posting a couple as a teaser. I would love to live in either Rome or Venice at some point. There is something about both of those cities that is just indescribable. Peter is always saying that to see Rome properly that you need at least 30 days. I would like to have that chance at some point.

Most of these pictures are people shots except I am sneaking in one of the breathtaking Colosseum. A couple of me, which Linda took while we were in the ruins, the oldest part of Rome. I thought I should get a picture of me in this glorious setting. Then there is the one of carmine and April...a beautiful fun shot of the two of them. Finally there is this really nice one of Michéle (our professor) and Miranda (her daughter), af=gain agaisn the backdrop of Romes ruins.
