Erin Drawing-Chalk and Charcoal

Here is what I have been working on over the Christmas break. It's a prety big drawing...at least 7ft. This time I wanted to get her whole body in, with a good amount of space above her. It's coming along good and I'm happy because it doesn't seem to be making that much of a mess.

Snowball Fight at the Duomo

Walking up to the Duomo I heard a lot of commotion . Sure enough there were a bunch of people playing in the snow and having a snowball fight. I stayed out of it since I was carrying around my camera. Everything about this night was a little surreal. I love the way the Duomo never looks real against the night sky.

Snow Covered Scooters

Staying within a similar theme there was no shortage of great pictures of snow covered scooters. I saw people driving around on them as well...very very slowly in comparison to how they drive normally.

Bicycles

One of the things that i wanted to get pictures of was snow covered bicycles. Some of the pictures turned out great. some were very dark but through photoshop they have a great grainy quality that I really like.

Winter Wonderland

I eventually decided to go out to take pictures thinking that this was an opportunity that was unique and that I would regret it if I didn't. It was beautiful and I am so glad that I did.

Snow in Florence...

Is not supposed to happen but I am glad that I am here for when it did. Last night around midnight Linda and Corey showed me the scene out her bedroom window so I decided to take pictures off the balcony. It was lovely and very peaceful.

...more Christmas Day 2005

....and more.....what a feast!

More Christmas Day

and more.....

Christmas Day 2005

We decided to have a Christmas pot luck for all the OCAD students that were here in Florence on Christmas day. The catch was everyone had to bring something tasty. We had a ton of food, pasta, salad, chili, lots of sweets and cookies and cakes and definitely lots of wine. I love Italy!

Erin and Lindsay Painting

I'm still not happy with Lindsay's side of this painting. I'm not sure what to do. I am going to give myself time to think about it before I do anything drastic. Maybe Michéle will have some good suggestions.

more Christmas Eve 2005

The aftermath of din din. It was great....we were bloated but happy.

Christmas Eve 2005

Christmas Eve I spent with Linda and her botfriend, Corey and Erin. We decided to have one of our Sunday dinners. A few weeks back lindsay and I made lasagna which was a hit so we decided to make it again. Along with that Erin made eggnog and asparagas with cheese and eggs. Linda and Corey made a fantastic salad and the most fabulous desert ever.

The Last Sampling of 24

Lindsay and Linda's work is in the double one. Lindsay works with nature combined with cityscapes with the colour representing pollution. Linda's work is a self portrait and a journey of her seach for her roots here, using things she collects, bus stubs, written notes, combined with the lace from Italy made into maps of the cities where we have been.
Shannon's work is the tin cans, she used one of my wax cans as the reference....her work this semester was about communication in this new city. She also works with bookbinding.
Yi's paintings are beautiful. Especially this little one I love. She wants to capture the life in the objects she paints whether it be a human or a jar of chilli.

More from 24

David's work is very 'Magritte-like'. he did a series like this so that when you walk in the room you see his work which looks like doors or windows leading to another room. Caitlyn's picture was inspired from a fall she took on Halloween night after leaving the party. The blood she painted was fake blood mixed with her real blood since she landed on her face. April's work is the night skies. She also participated in a wax workshop with me and it works very well for her skies.

24 the Show

Here is some of the work shown at the 24 end of the semester show. Erin's work is the hand made books, all individual unique pieces displayed in a suitcase that she fixedup and made a false bottom for. The books are meant to be picked up, touched etc. Her work is about her travels here, she used maps, found objects, etc in creating this piece. Jordan did the series of paintings of belly dancing. She used herself as the model for the photos. The series shows movement and the beauty of the female body. Katies work is the drawings. All beautifully done, close-ups of various vegetables.

24

Here are a few pictures taken during the end of the semester show here in Florence. Most of mine turned out a liottle blurry. I'm going to try and find some that others took that I can post. After the openning Lindsay and I went dancing at a club called Maracana. It was great. IT has brazilian theme...shows with dancers in feather get ups etc. It's in an old theatre. After the show it turns into a dance club....we danced until 4 am. It was fantastic. I'll definitely be going back.

More Christmas Lights Pictures

It's great seeing the lights against a backdrop like Florence. In one of these pictures you can see the Duomo. It never looks real to me, especially against the night sky. On Christmas Eve, after our dinner Erin, Linda and Corey went to midnight mass at the Duomo. It seemed like something we should do since we are in such a historic city. The duomo, inside is not one of my favourite churches by far. But I am glad I went even though it was drafty and freezing.
